Sisters of St. Francis - Project Cricket

There are a number of stories told about Francis' love of all creation. One tells of how a cricket lived in the fig tree by Francis' cell in the Portinuncula. Francis would stretch out his hand to it saying,

"Sing my Sister Cricket, and with joyful song praise your Creator." The cricket immediately began to chirp and did not stop singing until the man of God joined in mixing his own songs with its praise. Whenever the saint would come down from his cell he would always touch the little cricket with his hands and command it to sing, and it was always eager to obey his command.

As we enter into a new phase in planning for our use of information technology we name this work PROJECT CRICKET. Computers may, indeed, be the modern cricket bringing beeps and electronic chirps into our lives. Persistent crickets that demand our attention and can annoy us. But they are gift in so many ways. Let us then, like Francis, stretch out our hand in welcome to the tasks ahead.
